How to propagate Begonia by cuttings

How to propagate Begonia by cuttings

time

Begonia can be propagated by cuttings all year round. If it is cultivated at home, it is best to do so in April or May when the temperature rises above 20℃. At this time, the air humidity is high and the temperature is also high, which makes management easier and is conducive to the rooting of Begonia. Generally, it will take half a month to take root, and it will grow and bloom in autumn.

Matrix

It is best to use river sand as the substrate, wash it and dry it. This can disinfect it and also help the cut surface of the cuttings heal and promote rooting.

Cutting selection

It is best to choose healthy, pest-free and bud-free branches, about 5-6 cm long. Each cutting should have at least two buds. The top should be cut into a flat top shape and the bottom into a horseshoe shape to facilitate rooting.

Cutting method

When taking cuttings, first use a bamboo chopstick to poke a hole in the potting sand. It is best if the bamboo chopstick is the same thickness as the cutting. Then insert the Begonia cuttings into it. The depth should be about 1/3 of the length of the cutting. The spacing between plants and rows should be about 3 cm. Then use your hands to press the base slightly so that the base can be in good contact with the potting sand.

manage

No watering is required within two days after cuttings. Spraying can be done on the fifth day. The water temperature should be similar to that of the sand. Water until water flows out from the bottom of the pot. Then place it in a cool place and no longer need to water it. It will take about 10 days, when the roots grow 3-4 cm, you can place the pot in the sun. Watering depends on the weather conditions, and it can be potted after a week.

The above is all about the method of Begonia cuttings. If you master these steps, it will be easy to succeed in cuttings.
