When is the best time to plant passion fruit?

Passion fruit is a very popular fruit in recent years. It is rich in nutrients and is known as the "king of juice" and "money tree". It is planted in many areas. So when is the best time to plant passion fruit? Let’s learn more about it below.

When is the best time to plant passion fruit?

Studies have shown that passion fruit can be planted in two seasons, namely February to March in spring and August to September in autumn. The best planting time is from late February to mid-March and from late August to September.

Passion fruit planting technology

1. Planting conditions

Passion fruit has a very strong ability to adapt to the environment, but if you want to increase its yield, you still need to understand the conditions that are most suitable for its growth. The most suitable growth temperature for passion fruit is 20℃ ~ 30℃. It generally grows well at temperatures not lower than 0℃. It is suitable for planting and easy to produce high yields when the annual average temperature is above 18℃.

2. Planting Spacing

Passion fruit should not be planted too close to each other, and a reasonable layout should be maintained. Dig a planting trench and apply mixed fertilizer , applying 0.3 kg of compound fertilizer to each seedling. After planting, water the roots of each plant to keep the root soil moist. If conditions permit, you can also use biostimulants, which can promote plant growth and effectively prevent diseases and pests.

3. Young tree care

To make sure that the plant has survived, you need to observe the growth of side buds and prune them in time to ensure that the main vine's top buds have sufficient nutrients. After the vines grow, wrap them around the trellis to help the branches grow along the trellis.

4. Moisture management

Passion fruit has a certain degree of drought resistance, but in order to ensure its fruit yield and quality, the annual rainfall in the planting area cannot be less than 1200mm. If the rainfall is less and the area is relatively dry, timely irrigation is required. During the rainy season, drainage measures need to be taken to prevent water accumulation from damaging the passion fruit roots.

5. Fertilization management

During the seedling period, nitrogen fertilizer is generally the main fertilizer, and then some manure and urine water is applied, and a small amount of urea is added in the middle for watering. When it grows to a certain extent, some potassium fertilizer can be added. Passion fruit trees can be fertilized in batches during the fruit-bearing period, and urea can be applied before flowering to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Apply phosphorus fertilizer during the flowering period, potassium fertilizer during the fruiting period, and nitrogen fertilizer after harvesting. The amount used each time does not need to be too much. You can follow the principle of applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently.

6. Pruning and shaping

When the seedlings enter normal growth and development, the side buds of the seedlings should be removed in time. This can promote the growth and thickening of the main vine. When the main vine grows to a certain length, pillars should be set up to artificially assist in placing it on the shelf. Fruit trees should be pruned promptly after harvesting. But be careful not to prune too severely. After harvesting the last batch of fruits, all fruiting branches should be pruned to the base.
