How to propagate Viburnum

How to propagate Viburnum

Seed propagation

Viburnum can be propagated by sowing and planting seeds.

When propagating magnolia by sowing, you must first pick the ripe magnolia fruits when they bear fruit in November, pile the fruits until they are ripe, then wash the seeds, store them in a place with relatively low temperatures, and wait until the spring of the following year before sowing them. When sowing, you need to sow in a place where the soil layer is relatively deep. The covering soil layer must be thick enough, and then cover it with a layer of straw. In June, it will sprout, and then you can remove the straw.

If you sow the seeds in pots, you must pay attention to loosening the soil and watering them from time to time, so that the viburnum can sprout as soon as possible.

Grafting

Viburnum can also be propagated by grafting.

When the magnolia is about to sprout in March, select a branch of a mother tree that can bloom, usually a branch on the outer edge of the crown, and cut off a section to use as a grafting branch, about five centimeters long. After grafting the branches using the high grafting method, plant them in a cooler place. After the grafted branches grow leaves, you can place the plants in a place with sufficient sunlight.

After grafting, trim the top of the main trunk so that the grafted spike can survive and grow as quickly as possible. In this way, the grafted magnolia can enter the flowering period after one year of survival, unlike the seedlings that need to be cultivated for seven or eight years before they can bloom.
