How to prune potted fortune trees? Time and method for pruning branches and leaves

Pruning time for potted fortune trees

Potted money trees need to be pruned several times a year, usually in winter and spring. In winter, the plant is still dormant and its growth is slow. Pruning can reduce nutrient consumption and help it survive the winter. Spring is its growing season, and pruning at this time can promote the development of new branches, cut off overgrown branches in time, and reduce nutrient consumption.

How to prune potted fortune trees

1. Prepare tools

Professional pruning knives are generally used to prune potted money trees. It is a small tree itself, and its branches are still relatively hard. It is difficult to cut with ordinary scissors, which will not only cause wear and tear on the cut ends, but may also affect the recovery of the plant. In addition, the tools must be disinfected before pruning, usually soaked in potassium permanganate solution, to avoid wound infection.

2. Pruning

Cut off the overgrown branches of the potted money tree, leaving 3-4 buds on them, and also leaving a height of about 10 cm. All the excess parts should be removed. Some weak branches need to be removed from the base because their germination rate is very low and they can easily compete with other strong branches for nutrients.

3. Subsequent maintenance

After pruning the potted money tree, there is no need to apply medicine on the cut. Just put it in a cool and ventilated place. Generally, after waiting for about three weeks, the plant will grow new buds and leaves. After that, you can add some fertilizer appropriately, usually liquid fertilizer, but do not spray it with water to avoid infection of the wound.
