How to grow Caladium

How to grow Caladium

Growth habit

Caladium prefers a high temperature and humid growing environment. It can grow in a semi-shady environment and is not cold-resistant. The suitable growth temperature for variegated caladium is between 21℃ and 27℃. If the growth temperature is below 18℃, the leaves will not be upright and it will be difficult to sprout new leaves.

Maintenance methods

illumination

Caladium likes sunlight and requires scattered light but not too strong. If there is insufficient light, the colored spots on the leaves will become darker, the leaves will become too long and the leaves will become too soft. Excessive exposure to the sun or insufficient light can easily cause leaves to burn, resulting in blurred color, dull veins, leaves being too soft, petioles becoming longer, leaf colors not being bright, and petioles being easily broken, making the overall ornamental effect worse.

Watering

Caladium likes a humid environment. Plenty of watering is required in spring and summer.

temperature

Caladium is not cold-resistant, and the growing temperature must not be lower than 15℃. When it drops to 12℃, the leaves will turn yellow.

Fertilization

Caladium should be fertilized once a week during the growing season, using a combination of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, but nitrogen fertilizer should be the main ingredient.

soil

The soil requirements are fertile, loose and well-drained leaf mold or peat soil. Soil that is too wet or too dry is not conducive to the growth of Caladium leaves, and excessive humidity in the tuber area can easily lead to tuber rot.
