How to grow cyclamen in winter

In winter, many gardening enthusiasts tend to cultivate some cold-resistant flowers , and cyclamen is undoubtedly one of the best. It likes a cool climate, so it is important to understand the care habits of cyclamen. Let’s learn how to grow cyclamen in winter.

1. Temperature control

Winter is the blooming period of cyclamen, so you should avoid placing it on the balcony where the temperature is too low. The suitable growth temperature for cyclamen is 15-18 degrees, and the minimum temperature should not be lower than 10 degrees to prevent the plant from freezing. At the same time, the indoor temperature should not be too high, so as not to accelerate the withering of flowers and shorten the flowering period. Avoid placing cyclamen near heaters. If there is floor heating in the room, the flower pot should be raised.

2. Lighting management

Cyclamen needs full sun to promote flowering. It should be placed in a place with sufficient light to allow the plant to enjoy the sunlight. When the weather is warm, provide adequate ventilation, but do not place it directly in the wind.

3. Reasonable watering

During the flowering period, the frequency of watering of cyclamen needs to be reduced because water evaporates slowly at low temperatures. Keep the soil in the pot slightly dry, and water only after the soil is dry. Avoid direct contact of water with the flowers to prevent accelerated withering. Use warm water that has been exposed to sunlight for watering.

4. Fertilization strategy

Although cyclamen likes fertilizer, fertilization should be avoided during the flowering period to avoid causing the plant to grow too tall and shortening the flowering period. If the plant has not yet bloomed, you can apply nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer in appropriate amounts to promote flowering.

5. Treatment of flower residues

To extend the flowering period, withered flowers should be cut off in time, cut off from the base of the flower stem, and apply carbendazim to prevent infection and root rot.

In short, if you understand the growth habits of cyclamen, use loose and breathable soil for planting, and properly maintain it, cyclamen will thrive and continue to sprout new buds and flower arrows.
