Water and fertilizer management techniques for Prunus mume

Watering tips for elmleaf plum

Prunus armeniaca prefers a humid environment, but can tolerate drought.

When planting, special attention should be paid to water management in the first year. In summer, the plants should be supplied with sufficient water in time to prevent the death of Prunus armeniaca due to lack of water.

After entering normal management and maintenance, you must pay attention to watering three times, which refers to the greening water in early spring, the growth water in mid-spring, and the freezing water in early winter.

Among them, the early spring watering has a great impact on the flowering quality and annual growth of Prunus armeniaca. This watering can not only prevent early spring frost damage, but also provide water for plant growth in time. Therefore, early spring watering should be done early rather than late, usually in early March. If it is too late, it will not play a role in preventing cold and frost. When watering, pay attention to watering enough and thoroughly.

Watering is needed again in late April. Because spring is windy and rainy, this watering can make up for the plant's growth needs.

Fertilization techniques for elmleaf plum

The elmleaf plum likes fertilizer, so when planting, you can use a few shovels of rotted cow and horse manure as base fertilizer.

In the second year, normal management will begin, and applications can be made once after the spring flowering period, once during the summer when flower buds differentiate, and once before winter.

After the early spring flowering period, the elmleaf plum consumes a lot of nutrients. At this time, top dressing is very beneficial to the plant's future growth, making the plant grow vigorously and have luxuriant branches and leaves.

June to September in summer is the flower bud differentiation period of Prunus armeniaca. At this time, some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied in appropriate amounts, which is beneficial to the differentiation of flower buds and the full lignification of new branches of the year.

Before winter, top dressing should be combined with frozen watering. Applying some ring fertilizer can effectively increase the ground temperature, enhance the permeability of the soil, and provide sufficient nutrients during the elm leaf plum blossom period in early spring of the following year. Therefore, this time the fertilizer should be shallow rather than deep. Water should be applied in time after fertilization, and ring fertilization can be adopted.
