How to water sunflowers

Open Field

Sunflowers grown in the open field have relatively developed root systems, are cold-resistant, and require relatively less water. There is no need to water too much in spring. As the temperature rises in summer, water evaporates faster and additional watering is needed.

When sowing: Whether planting seeds or seedlings, after planting in the soil, water it in time to ensure the soil is moist.

From sowing to budding: this period is relatively drought-resistant and does not require much water. And the relatively dry environment is conducive to the growth of the root system.

Bud stage: control watering. During this period, the plants are tall, the leaves are lush, and the water consumption is high, so watering is required in a timely manner. Especially under conditions of high temperature and strong light, additional watering is needed to prevent the leaves from wilting and affecting growth. It is also important to avoid excessive watering of the plants.

Potted Plants

The plants and flowers of potted sunflowers are relatively small, and they do not produce sunflower seeds. Their most notable feature is that the seeds are large but the pots are small.

Planting and Transplanting: Keep the soil moderately moist at this time. Keep the potting soil moist during the seedling stage and supply sufficient water. If the temperature reaches above 25℃ in summer, you need to increase the amount of watering or the frequency of watering.

During the growing season: Water promptly to prevent the leaves from becoming dehydrated and wilting. But don't water too much at one time, as too wet soil will cause the leaves to turn yellow. It is recommended to use the immersion method for watering during the growing period: place the entire flower pot into a basin filled with water, allowing the water to cover 2/3 of the flower pot, and soak in the pot for 15 to 20 minutes, so that the soil in the pot is more thoroughly moistened.

Well, this is the introduction to the watering method of sunflowers. Which one do you prefer, a potted ornamental sunflower or a large sunflower that can be used for both ornamental and edible purposes? Try it out according to your preferences!
