How to transplant winter jasmine

How to transplant winter jasmine

The propagation methods include cutting, division and layering.

Cutting method

Cuttings are taken after the forsythia blooms in February.

Cut 15 cm strong branches and insert them into the soil, with the part in the soil accounting for half of the branch. When cutting, remove the leaves and keep 2 to 3 leaves on the above-ground part to make it easier to root.

After cuttings, water them sufficiently and place them in a cool place for the first 3 days, then move them to the sun for maintenance.

Division method

The division of Forsythia is usually carried out in spring and autumn, and it is most suitable when the seeds just sprout in spring. Small seedlings are usually selected for the division.

Directly remove the forsythia from the pot, divide it into clumps, and replant it. Each cluster of forsythia is divided into 20 clusters, which makes it easier to survive.

After the division survives, it should be transplanted in time. When transplanting, cut short the above-ground part of the plant and keep it with the original soil to increase the survival rate.

Layering

The hard branches of Forsythia can be layered in March and will take root in June. The young branches are layered in May and will take root 30 days after layering.

Select strong branches and bend them. Be careful not to break the branches during the operation. Use a small wooden stick to stand at the root of the branch and tie it tightly with a rope to make it grow upward. After one year, the mother plant can be separated and repotted.

Water frequently after layering to keep the soil moist to help rooting.
