How to propagate octopus orchid

How to propagate octopus orchid

The octopus orchid variety is precious, and it is not easy for you to keep one pot alive. You must be well prepared before dividing it. Don't be lazy, don't be pampered, don't be partial, and wholeheartedly raise many pots of octopus orchids.

Material preparation

The mother plant of the octopus orchid that has grown into the pot, sharp scissors, new soil, and a flower pot. These are essential. Of course, if you are very experienced, you can also have your own little tricks and tools and choose tools according to your personal habits.

Division time

All the tools are ready, and all that’s left is to wait. Division is usually done in spring, but before flowering.

Division method

First remove the plant from the pot, being careful not to damage the roots. In order to facilitate the operation, water control is usually started one week before division to ensure that the soil is loose and easier to remove from the pot.

Handle the plants, shake off the old soil at the roots, and prune the roots, cut off the old and dead roots, and then cut off the dry leaves.

Divide the plants into clumps, depending on how many pots you want to divide them into. Try not to divide them into too few pots. Generally, a full pot of octopus orchid can be divided into two pots. Be careful not to damage the buds and roots during cutting. At least 3 pseudobulbs should be retained in each cluster, so that the survival rate is relatively high.

Place the plant in the pot and make sure the side with new buds is facing the edge of the pot, leaving enough space for it to grow. When planting the pseudobulbs, do not plant them too deep or too shallow, but slightly below the soil surface by 1 to 2 cm.

After division, place it in a cool place and do not water it for 3 to 5 days to prevent wounds from healing in time during the division process, which may cause rot. Just spray a small amount of water on the leaves to ensure that the plant does not shrink.

After about a week, new roots and shoots will begin to grow normally, and you can then maintain them normally along with the other plants.
