Clivia planting method

Clivia planting method

The breeding matrix

The substrate is usually wood shavings, but fine sand, rotten leaves or sawdust can also be used. Plastic baskets or breathable tiles are also needed.

Taking wood shavings as an example, first disinfect them, take them out and soak them in water. Place the flowers and trees in the basket and level it.

seed

When selecting seeds, choose those with full grains. Follow these steps:

Put the seeds in warm water at 20~30℃ and soak for one hour. Take it out and put it into the basin with the eyes facing down, arranging them at regular intervals!

Cover the seeds with 2-3 cm of wood shavings and flatten lightly.

When finished, water it and then place the basket in a ventilated place, and the planting is complete.

Daily Management

Breeding

For breeding, it is advisable to choose a location with good ventilation and moist air. If this is your first time breeding, check the development of the seeds frequently. When checking, wash your hands frequently or use a clean wooden stick to check.

Moisturizing

Usually keep the shavings moist, no need to water every day. If it is too wet, the seeds will rot, and if it is too dry, the seeds will not germinate easily!

Insulation

The most suitable growth temperature is between 15~30℃. In the northern regions, the temperature should be kept above 10℃ and below 32℃. If the temperature is too low, you can use incandescent lamps to keep warm. In the southern regions, move to a sunny windowsill at noon to increase the temperature appropriately.

Water Quality

Do not water directly with tap water. The chlorine in tap water will affect seed germination, so the tap water should be left for a day before watering.

germination

Usually, if maintained properly, the plants will germinate in about 15 days, and some even earlier. After germination, do not turn over the seeds all day long to avoid damaging the newly grown sprouts!

After about 45 days, the germinated seeds will grow longer and longer, with the roots growing downwards, and small leaves will gradually grow on both sides of the seeds. Just remember to water them more often!
