How to care for and water small-leaved red nanmu?

Small- leaved red macaw , also known as wheel-leaved rambutan and mountain blackberry, is an evergreen shrub . It has lush branches and leaves, and has good meaning, making it suitable for being cultivated into a bonsai for viewing at home. So how to care for and water the small-leaved red nanmu? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil selection

Small-leaved red nanmu prefers loose, well-drained soil, and can be cultivated in a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil and river sand. Usually an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer is added to the soil to provide the nutrients needed by the plants.

2. Light temperature

Small-leaved red nan prefers a semi-shaded environment and avoids direct strong sunlight, especially the scorching sun in summer. When caring for it indoors, it is best to place it under bright diffuse light. In terms of temperature, small-leaved red macaw is suitable for growing in a warm environment, and the ideal growth temperature is 18℃-25℃. In winter, you should keep warm and avoid temperatures below 5°C to prevent frost damage.

3. Reasonable watering

Small-leaved red nanmu has a certain degree of drought resistance and does not require much water. When watering, you can follow the principle of "water when the soil is dry and water thoroughly when watering". During the growing season and summer, you can spray water on the branches and leaves to create humidity, and at the same time increase the frequency of watering to avoid water shortage caused by excessive evaporation. As the temperature drops in winter, it is recommended to reduce the frequency of watering.

4. Fertilization points

In addition to applying sufficient base fertilizer when potting, appropriate top dressing should also be applied during the growth period of the small-leaved red nanmu. If it is a new pile, no fertilizer is needed in the first year. In the second year, organic fertilizer should be added every half a month. Usually, thin fertilizer should be applied frequently. For some old trees, it is also necessary to spray them with foliar fertilizer so that they are easier to absorb.

5. Pruning and shaping

Pruning and management of small-leaved red macaw is also very important. Generally speaking, pruning should be done in spring and autumn to cut off dead branches and leaves and parts with diseases and insect pests, and to promote the growth and branching of new shoots. At the same time, you can also perform shaping and pruning as needed to create a beautiful plant shape.

6. Pest and disease control

There are relatively few diseases and insect pests on the small-leaved red macaw, mainly sooty mold disease and scale insects. Usually, sooty mold can be controlled by spraying 250-500 times of 25% carbendazim wettable powder ; scale insects can be killed by manual scrubbing with soapy water, or by spraying with 1500 times of 80% DDT solution.

The above is an introduction to the key points of maintenance and watering of small-leaved red macaw. Overall, it is relatively easy to master. However, during the maintenance process, you should also pay attention to the growth conditions of the plants and adjust the maintenance measures appropriately according to the actual conditions.
