Do orchids like water and sunlight? Can they be exposed to the sun after watering?

1. Do orchids like water?

Most orchids prefer water and grow best in moist soil. Because water is a necessary raw material for photosynthesis, it can help orchids synthesize nutrients. However, they like moisture but cannot tolerate waterlogging. If the moisture content in the soil is too high and water accumulates, their roots may be soaked and rotten, resulting in reduced efficiency in absorbing nutrients from the soil, which in turn causes growth problems such as yellow leaves and dry branches.

2. Do orchids like sunlight?

Orchids prefer semi-shady environments, and most varieties do not particularly like sunlight. If they are placed in a place with strong light for a long time, their leaves will be burned by the strong light. However, this does not mean that they do not need sunlight to grow. Because sunlight is also a necessary condition for it to carry out photosynthesis, long-term absence of light will cause it to be unable to carry out photosynthesis and lack of nutrients. Therefore, it is recommended to place them in a place with diffuse light when maintaining them.

3. Can orchids be exposed to the sun after watering?

Orchids are not suitable for direct sunlight right after watering. Because the plants are exposed to the sun right after watering, the water droplets left on the leaves will act as a magnifying glass, focusing the sunlight onto the leaves, causing them to be burned. When you have just finished watering, it is recommended to place it in a warm and shady place. Wait a few hours before considering sunbathing.
