1. Family

Gardenia is a plant belonging to the Rubiaceae family and the Gardenia genus. It is an ornamental plant for gardens and has many varieties. It is native to China and is mainly distributed in the southern region of the country. Many cities have designated this flower as their city flower.

2. Form

Gardenia is a shrub, about 0.3-3 meters tall, with cylindrical branches and gray color. The leaves are opposite each other, leathery in texture, sometimes papery, and come in many shapes and sizes, with a length of about 3-25 cm. The flowers are mostly white, sometimes a little creamy yellow, with a fragrant smell, and the filaments inside are relatively short. It can also bear fruit, which is oval or nearly spherical in shape and yellow or orange-red in color.

3. Habits

Although gardenia is relatively shade-tolerant, it prefers sunlight. In a growing environment with sufficient light, it will grow more vigorously and bloom more. Gardenia prefers a warm growing environment and is slightly cold-resistant in winter, but you must take good cold-proof measures. It is suitable for growing in fertile, well-drained acidic soil, and grows poorly in heavy and compacted soil.

The main methods of propagation of gardenia are cuttings and layering, but it can also be sown.
