Azalea repotting time and precautions for repotting

Azalea repotting time and precautions for repotting

1. Time to change pots

You should choose the appropriate time to repot the azalea, and do not do it blindly. If you want to repot, it is recommended to choose spring or autumn. These two times are its growing seasons, and it is easier for the plant to survive if you repot it. Don’t repot too often. Generally, it is sufficient to repot once every two years. If the pot is not changed for a long time, the soil will become hardened, nutrients will be lacking, and there will not be enough space in the pot, all of which will affect the normal growth of the azalea.

2. Precautions

1. Stop watering: Stop watering two days before you want to repot, because it is not easy to remove the pot when the soil is moist. It will be easier to remove the pot when the soil is dry, and it is not easy to damage the roots.

2. Choose potting soil: When repotting, choose a slightly larger pot so that its roots can stretch better. The soil must also be sufficiently breathable and have good drainage capabilities, otherwise the roots of the plant will be unable to breathe and water accumulation will easily occur.

3. Pruning: When repotting, you need to pay attention to pruning the roots. Diseased and old roots should be cut off. Under normal circumstances, roots that do not grow well should also be cut off. After pruning the roots, disinfection is required to avoid infection when potting.

4. Ventilation: After changing the pot, you must pay attention to maintaining ventilation. You need to place it in a cool environment first and wait for it to slowly adapt to the pot. Only after it has adapted to the pot can it be slowly exposed to the sun, but it should not be exposed to strong sunlight.
