Can litchi trees be grown in the north?

Lychees can be grown in the north. Although lychees can be grown in the north, lychees themselves are subtropical fruit trees. It is best not to plant them in the open field in the north. You can choose to grow them in greenhouses, but the cost will be higher.

Litchi trees prefer a high temperature, high humidity, sunny growth environment, and are mostly distributed in the range of 18-29 degrees north latitude in my country. Its genetics require a relatively low temperature during the flower bud differentiation period. The flowering period requires warmth but not dry heat.

How to grow litchi trees in the north

1. Watering: Lychee has few and shallow roots, and young trees may experience "drying back", especially after they are planted. Water management cannot be relaxed during maintenance. In dry days, attention should be paid to watering to maintain moisture, and in rainy days, attention should be paid to preventing water accumulation.

2. Pruning: The shaping and pruning of litchi trees requires choosing an angle. Pruning should be done according to the principle of light rather than heavy. All dense branches, bent branches, and diseased and insect-infested branches should be cut off. This will help concentrate nutrients and expand the crown.

3. Temperature: The growth and development period of litchi trees requires high temperature and humidity. The suitable temperature for the plant's growth is 23-29℃. It has poor cold resistance and can only bloom above 10℃. When the temperature is below 2℃, it is in danger of frostbite.
