Bitter melon cultivation methods and precautions

Bitter melon cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: It has different temperature requirements at different times. The temperature for seed development is between 30 and 35 degrees, and the best temperature for seedling development is between 20 and 25 degrees. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, the plant will grow slowly. If the temperature is below 10 degrees, the plant will stop growing. The best temperature for flowering is between 20 and 30 degrees. Within this temperature range, the plant develops the fastest and the fruit set rate is the highest.

2. Watering: The plant consumes a lot of water during the growing period, especially during the flowering and fruiting periods. It needs to be watered every two days. When the temperature is above 30 degrees, it needs to be watered every day.

3. Fertilization: When laying the base fertilizer for it, you need to use decomposed organic fertilizer, but this is far from enough, because the fertilizer consumption is very high during the growth period, and it needs to be top-dressed once a week. The fertilizer can be made from human and animal feces and urine. When it is almost time to bear fruit, you can slightly increase the concentration of the fertilizer, which can effectively prolong the time of viewing the fruit.

4. Light: Adequate light can effectively resist the invasion of pests and diseases, and can also prevent the branches and leaves from growing too tall and the thorns from being visible. Light is so important for plants. During the growth period, the light time must be guaranteed to be more than eight hours.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Weeding: Weeding is necessary from the seedling stage to prevent soil compaction and prevent weeds from competing with plants for nutrients. After watering the seedlings to help them grow, you can weed when the soil is no longer sticky. When weeding, pay attention to protecting the new roots of the plants. It is best to weed shallowly. If you find sick or weak seedlings, remove them all and replant them later.

2. Pruning: It generally does not require pruning, just deal with the dry branches and leaves.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Seedling burn: When seedlings are burned, it is mostly caused by improper fertilization. You need to pull out the damaged seedlings and then pour plenty of water on the improperly fertilized land to dilute the fertilizer.

2. Disease: Yellowing of leaves may be caused by insufficient light, and the light needs to be increased slowly.

IV. Other issues

1. Edibility: It is a common vegetable and can be eaten. In addition to its edible value, it can also be used as medicine, with the effect of detoxifying and clearing away heat.

2. Is it suitable for home cultivation: Its vines are relatively large and have high requirements for the maintenance environment, so it is not suitable for home cultivation.
