Cultivation methods and precautions of evening primrose

Cultivation methods and precautions of evening primrose

1. Maintenance methods

1. Substrate selection: Evening primrose is suitable for growing in soil that is fertile, loose, and breathable. When preparing the soil, you can use a mixture of garden soil and leaf mold. This kind of soil is very suitable for its growth.

2. Temperature management: The evening primrose likes to grow in a warm and humid environment. It is afraid of the cold. It is an annual plant that grows in spring and dies in winter. The maximum temperature in summer should not exceed 35℃, and 19℃ to 29℃ is the optimal growth temperature.

3. Water management: Seeds need to be soaked in hot water before sowing to promote germination. After sowing, keep the soil moist. It is recommended to spray water every other day before transplanting. Watering is required immediately after transplanting, and then every three days. Watering can be done as appropriate during hot summer weather.

4. Nutrient management: Mix diamine, magnesium powder and potassium fertilizer into the soil before transplanting to increase soil fertility. During the growing season, apply urea once and water the plant when it grows to about half a meter. Be careful not to apply urea on the leaves.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Sowing: Sowing is a common way of propagating evening primrose. Before sowing, you need to use scissors to cut a small hole in the seed coat, and then soak it in hot water at about 90℃ for about 14 hours before planting.

2. Division: After the seedlings grow out, they can be divided and transplanted into moist and loose soil in spring. The recommended distance between each row is about 35cm-75cm.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Rodent pests: Evening primroses in the fruiting period are prone to insect pests. You can mix dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane with bean dregs or wheat bran and spread it evenly around the melon to reduce losses.

2. No flowering: The evening primrose blooms from July to October every year. The failure to bloom may be because the flowering period has not yet arrived or the surrounding environment is too cold. It can only bloom after the temperature is raised.

IV. Other issues

1. How long is the flowering period: The flowering period of the evening primrose is summer and autumn every year. If the surrounding environment is relatively warm, the flowering period may be extended to early winter.

2. Can it be raised at home: Yes. The flowering period of evening primrose is relatively long and it can be planted in loose, well-drained soil. If the environment at home is warmer, the viewing period of the flower can be appropriately extended.
