Phoenix flower cultivation methods and precautions

Phoenix flower cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Substrate selection: Poinciana prefers soil that is breathable, well-drained, and rich in organic matter. When preparing the soil, you can mix nutrient soil, leaf mold and a small amount of small stones, and then plant it.

2. Temperature management: The suitable temperature for the growth of Phoenix flower is 20℃-31℃. It does not like cold weather. It needs to be kept warm when the temperature is below 9℃ in winter, and needs to be cooled when the temperature is too high.

3. Water management: The Poinciana is drought-resistant and afraid of waterlogging, so it does not require excessive water during its growth period. You can water it appropriately according to weather conditions. Do not water too much each time. If there is water accumulation in the pot, it will affect the growth of roots.

4. Nutrient management: During the seedling period, you can apply comprehensive fertilizers and less nitrogen fertilizer to promote growth. Apply fertilizer again before flowering and stop fertilizing before autumn arrives.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Sowing: The outer skin of the seeds of Poinciana is very thick and has poor water absorption. Soak the seeds in hot water at a relatively high temperature before planting, and continue to soak them for one to two days after cooling. Change the water frequently during the soaking period to prevent the seeds from rotting. Generally, the seeds will germinate in about seven days after sowing.

2. Overwintering: When the temperature is lower than 9℃ in winter, it will affect the growth of Poinciana. In severe cases, the whole plant will be frozen to death. Pay attention to keeping warm when raising trees in winter. You can wrap straw mats around the main branches of the tree to increase the temperature.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Root rot: Poinciana is suitable for growing in soil with good drainage. Water accumulation caused by untimely drainage will cause root rot.

2. Noctuid armyworms: They are prone to appear in drought and high temperature weather, and feed on the leaves of Poinciana. Treatment is most effective during the larval stage. You can mix the insect powder, sulfur phosphorus powder and malathion powder, and spray it on the leaves before the sun comes out.

IV. Other issues

1. Is it poisonous? The seeds of the Poinciana are poisonous. Do not let children play with the seeds and pets should be kept away from them to avoid causing trouble.

2. Flowering period: The flowering period of Poinciana is around June and July every year. The flowers are highly ornamental and require reasonable watering after entering the flowering period.
