Holly cultivation methods and precautions

Holly cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: Loose soil, good drainage and fertility are the basic requirements for planting holly trees. It can be made by mixing rotten leaf soil and sandy loam. This kind of soil is most suitable for growing holly trees.

2. Water: During the growth period, just keep the soil moist but without water accumulation. In addition to proper watering, you can also spray water on the branches and leaves to keep them moist.

3. Nutrients: Absorbing sufficient nutrients can make the leaves thick and large. When fertilizing, nitrogen fertilizer is often diluted for absorption. During the vigorous growth period, you can apply fertilizer twice more, and only occasionally at other times.

4. Light: It likes a mild and well-lit environment. When it grows, it needs to be placed in a well-lit place, but it also needs appropriate shade to avoid strong light.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Pruning: Holly trees are very resistant to pruning, especially when their branches are growing and sprouting. Proper shaping and pruning are beneficial to the growth of their branches and leaves.

2. Reproduction: Cuttings are often used for reproduction, and the most suitable time for reproduction is the rainy season. Select tender branches about eight centimeters in length, insert half of them into the soil, and then spray them with water. They will take root and sprout in about 30 days.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Leaf spot: Leaf spot is a common disease of holly trees. You should first prune off the infected branches, and then spray them with diluted chlorothalonil.

2. There are yellow leaves inside the branches: During the growth period, yellow leaves and wilted branches often occur inside the branches. This is because the lush branches and leaves on the outside cause poor ventilation inside. The outer branches should be properly pruned to allow ventilation and light inside the plant, thus avoiding the occurrence of yellow leaves inside the branches.

IV. Other issues

1. How to survive the winter: Holly trees are cold-resistant, but when the temperature is too low, you can use soil piling to protect them from the cold, which can prevent frostbite on their roots.

2. Is it poisonous? Holly is not toxic at all. Not only does it look green and beautiful, it is also easy to grow. The branches and leaves are thick and shiny, and are very ornamental.
