Is it good to grow calamus at home?

Is it good to grow calamus at home?

1. Is it good to raise it at home?

Acorus is an aquatic plant that has good ornamental value. It can also be used to repel insects or treat diseases, making it very suitable for home cultivation. Although it has certain toxicity, it will not be a big problem as long as it is not taken orally. In addition, it is also a custom for people in the south of the Yangtze River to decorate it on doors and windows during the Dragon Boat Festival.

2. How to maintain

1. Soil: Although calamus is an aquatic plant, it can also be grown in soil. Moreover, the climate in the north is relatively dry and the water quality is alkaline, which makes hydroponics not conducive to its growth. It can be cultivated with Akadama soil, which has good water retention and can make its roots grow faster.

2. Watering: Acorus has a high demand for water. Not only should you water it more, but you should also keep it in a humid environment. If you grow it in soil, water it once in the morning and evening every day, and don't let the soil dry out. At the same time, spray with clean water to increase the surrounding humidity and inhibit the loss of water in the leaves.

3. Fertilization: The growth of calamus cannot be separated from sufficient nutrients. Adding fertilizer during its peak growing season will help the plant stand upright and make the leaves more slender. You can use cake fertilizer water to irrigate the roots once a week, and dilute it before use. Stop fertilizing after the frost, otherwise it will affect its growth.
