So what are the common diseases of tomatoes? How to prevent and treat it? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Viral diseases

Caused by a variety of viruses, symptoms include mosaic, fern leaves, stripes, clustering, curled leaves, yellow tops, etc., and it is mainly spread by aphids.

Prevention and control methods : In hot and drought years, spray pesticides in time to control aphids. You can use 3000-3500 times diluted 50% aphid carb wettable powder for spraying.

2. Late blight

Caused by Phytophthora, it mainly harms leaves and fruits, but can also harm stems and petioles. It can be infected from the seedling stage to the adult plant stage, and manifests as dark green water-soaked spots on the leaves and fruits.

Prevention and control methods: Use 500 times diluted 58% metalaxyl mancozeb wettable powder, once every 7-8 days, for 2-3 times in a row.

3. Botrytis cinerea

Caused by Botrytis cinerea, it mainly harms flowers and fruits, but leaves and stems may also be affected, appearing as water-soaked or yellow-brown wet rot.

Prevention and control methods: Use pesticides in advance before the arrival of bad weather such as rainy days. In the early stage of the disease, you can choose pesticides such as boscalid, pyraclostrobin, flutoxifen-butyl, etc. for prevention and control.

4. Bacterial wilt

It is caused by bacteria and is a bacterial vascular tissue disease, which manifests as leaf wilting and browning of the vascular bundles.

Prevention and control methods: In the early stage of bacterial wilt, you can use 72% agricultural streptomycin diluted with water to prepare 3000 times solution, or new phytocomycin diluted with water to prepare 4000 times solution for root irrigation, once every 5 to 7 days, and irrigate the roots continuously for 3 to 5 times.

5. Anthrax

Caused by fungi, round or irregular charcoal-black necrotic spots appear on the fruit in the early stage. As the disease worsens, the spots gradually expand, causing the fruit to deform.

Prevention and control methods: Before or in the early stage of the disease, spray the entire tomato plant evenly, once every 7-10 days. The pesticide can be selected by spraying 25% fenpropimorph suspension at 30-40 ml/mu.

6. Leaf mold

Caused by fungi, oval or irregular shaped pale yellow spots appear on the leaves. In severe cases, it can cause all the leaves to curl and the entire plant to dry up.

Prevention and control methods: Use 12 ml of Holic and 100 g of 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder, dilute with 60 kg of water and spray once every 5-7 days for 2-3 times.

In general, common tomato diseases are diverse and there is still a long way to go in prevention and control. Farmers should strengthen field management, adopt comprehensive prevention and control measures, and promptly detect and control the occurrence and spread of diseases to ensure the healthy growth and high and stable yield of tomatoes.
