Difference Between Ivy and Creeper

1. Morphological differences

The length of ivy is generally between 3-20m. Its branches are gray-brown, with aerial roots and a relatively smooth surface. Its new branches are covered with soft hairs.

The length of the ivy is about 18m and its branches are relatively thick. Old branches are mostly brown, while new branches are mostly purple-red.

2. Difference of blades

The leaves of ivy are relatively small, ranging from 5-12cm in length and 3-10cm in width. It has a petiole between 2 and 9 cm long, but no stipules. It is oval in shape, dark green and shiny on the front, and light green or yellow-green on the back. There are obvious leaf veins on both sides.

The leaves of Parthenocissus tricuspidata are relatively large, ranging from 8 to 18 cm in length and 4 to 16 cm in width. It is green in color, has serrated edges, and a layer of white powder on the back. In autumn, its leaves turn bright red, which is very beautiful.

3. Flower Difference

The inflorescence of ivy is an umbel with a diameter between 1.5-2.5cm. Its flowers have 5 petals, which are triangular-ovate, 3-3.5mm long, and light yellowish white or light greenish white.

The inflorescence of Parthenocissus tricuspidata is a cyme with a length between 4-8cm. Its flowers bloom in summer and are yellow-green in color.
