How long does it take for camellia to successfully grow seedlings?

1. Seedling acclimatization time

The time it takes for camellia to grow slowly is variable and depends on the size of the seedlings, the region, and the temperature. The seedlings with flower buds will survive in about a week, while the toothpick seedlings need half a month. The acclimatization period for Suqian seedlings is relatively long, generally about 1 month. Winter has low temperatures and may take up to 2 months.

2. Maintenance during the seedling stage

1. Potting soil: Mix garden soil, river sand and peat soil in a ratio of 2:2:1. Garden soil is regular soil, river sand increases drainage, and peat wood is slightly acidic. In addition, the amount of peat wood cannot be more than river sand, otherwise it will affect drainage.

2. Light: Place the seedlings in a cool and ventilated place, and avoid exposing them to the sun. The seedlings cannot be exposed to sunlight during the seedling stage, as transpiration will consume too much water. Moreover, camellia prefers partial shade, and after the seedlings have grown, it is not suitable for long-term exposure to sunlight.

3. Watering: It is not advisable to water during the seedling growth period, but the air humidity needs to be maintained. Generally, water is sprinkled on the ground, but the leaves should not be sprayed. Alternatively, you can soak water at the bottom of the flowerpot, but do not allow the soil in the pot to come into contact with the water.

4. Fertilization: It is not advisable to apply fertilizer during the seedling stage. Fertilizer at this time will not provide nutrients, but may kill the seedlings. After the seedlings have grown, you can add a little nutrient solution, but the concentration should not be too high to avoid burning the roots.
