How to grow potted dahlias

How to grow potted dahlias

1. Soil

When planting dahlias in pots, you can mix five parts of garden soil, two parts of leaf mold, two parts of river sand and one part of decomposed organic fertilizer and cultivate them evenly. After planting the bulbs in the pots, be sure to bury the bulbs completely in the soil and not expose the soil surface. After planting, water it thoroughly and place it in a place with a constant temperature above 15 degrees. It will sprout after about a week to ten days. Once it germinates, place it in a well-lit environment as it has high requirements for light.

2. Watering

You need to be careful when watering potted dahlias. When cultivated outdoors, the evaporation rate is very high, especially in summer, so watering must be timely to prevent drying out. The evaporation of water from indoor plants is inhibited to a certain extent to avoid root rot of potted plants.

3. Temperature

Dahlia is a plant that is afraid of both cold and heat. When the temperature exceeds 25 degrees in summer, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated environment and protected from high temperatures. When the temperature drops below 10 degrees at night, you should also take precautions against low temperatures.

4. Fertilization

During the cultivation process, in addition to applying a sufficient amount of base fertilizer to the soil before planting the bulbs, apply a thin liquid fertilizer once every 10 days or so during the growing season.

5. Prevention and control of pests and diseases

Dahlias are relatively prone to diseases and pests, so they need to be observed frequently and timely intervention should any signs be detected to prevent unnecessary impacts caused by diseases and pests.
