Difference Between Dianthus and Carnation

1. Height difference

Generally speaking, the height of dianthus is 30-50cm, while the height of carnation is 40-70cm. Therefore, dianthus is slightly shorter than carnation.

2. Difference of blades

The leaves of dianthus are linear-lanceolate, about 3-5cm long and 2-4cm wide, with small serrations on the leaf edges and very obvious main veins. The leaves of carnation are 4-14cm long and 2-4cm wide. Therefore, the leaves of dianthus are slightly shorter than those of carnation.

3. The difference between flowers

The flowers of dianthus are solitary or in umbels, with a pedicel length of 1-3cm and 4 oval bracts. The calyx is cylindrical, about 15-25mm long and 4-5mm in diameter. Carnation flowers are mostly solitary, with pedicels shorter than calyx, and bracts ranging from 4 to 6 in number and are broadly oval. The calyx is also cylindrical, but is 2.5-3cm long.
