Cultivation methods and precautions of Sichuan Michelia

Cultivation methods and precautions of Sichuan Michelia

1. Soil

Michelia glabra has fleshy roots, so it has very high requirements for soil conditions. The soil must have good air permeability. We can mix some rotten leaves, garden soil, some fertilizer and sand together to make a culture soil, and then plant it. This way the soil will become loose and the drainage will be very good. Allow its roots to absorb nutrients more fully.

2. Watering

The soil in the pot of Michelia schefflera should be kept moist at ordinary times, but not too wet. If you water it too much, water will accumulate easily, which will make its roots rot easily, so you must control its moisture on rainy days. In addition, a lot of water is needed during the growing period and before flowering, so you need to water it once a day. When the temperature is high in summer, you must pour more water on the leaves, so that it can cool down well. In autumn and winter, the daylight hours are relatively short, so it is generally enough to water the plants 1 to 2 times a week.

3. Sunlight

In summer, its plants cannot be exposed to direct sunlight and must be properly shaded to prevent burns from strong light. We can place it in an east-facing window or balcony in the room, or under a tree outside. When it's cool in autumn, you can get more sun. In winter, just place it in a sunny and ventilated place in the room.

4. Temperature

Generally, the temperature in winter cannot be lower than 5 degrees, otherwise it will affect its normal growth. The maximum temperature cannot exceed 15 degrees. If the temperature is too high, it will consume too much nutrients, which will affect its growth next year.

5. Fertilization

Michelia chuanxiensis is particularly fond of fertilizer, so we generally apply fertilizer every first half of a month during its growing season. Stop fertilizing during its flowering period and after October. If you see that the leaves are not particularly green, you can apply fertilizer again.
