Wolfberry planting conditions and temperatures are suitable for planting areas

Wolfberry planting conditions

Wolfberry likes a cool environment and has strong cold resistance. When the temperature is stable at around 7 degrees, the seeds will germinate and the seedlings can withstand temperatures as low as minus 3 degrees. In addition, wolfberry can overwinter at minus 25 degrees without frost damage.

Wolfberry has a well-developed root system and is highly drought-resistant. It can still grow in arid deserts. In order to obtain high yields, sufficient water is needed, especially during the flowering and fruiting periods. However, it cannot tolerate waterlogging. Excessive moisture in the soil will cause root rot or death. It is suitable for planting in deep, fertile, well-drained alkaline soil and sandy loam.

Wolfberry planting temperature

Wolfberry has strong adaptability to the environment and is not very demanding on soil, temperature, sunlight and other conditions. When the temperature is stable at around 7 degrees, the seeds will germinate, and the seedlings can withstand short-term low temperatures of -2 to -3 degrees. The roots grow rapidly at 8 to 14 degrees in spring. The temperature during the flowering period is better at 16 to 23 degrees, and 20 to 25 degrees is appropriate during the fruiting period.

Suitable areas for wolfberry cultivation

Wolfberry generally grows on loose, fertile, well-drained alkaline soil and sandy loam. It is mainly distributed in Northeast China, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, southern Gansu, as well as Southwest China, Central China, South China and East China provinces and regions. It is commonly found on hillsides, wastelands, hilly areas, saline-alkali land, roadsides and next to village houses.

Wolfberry planting time

Wolfberry has strong adaptability to the environment and can be sown in spring, summer and autumn, with spring sowing being the main method. The specific sowing time is March-April.

Benefits of wolfberry cultivation

Generally, wolfberry can produce more than 250 kilograms of dried fruit per mu. If calculated based on the relatively low price of 16 yuan per catty, the income per mu is 8,000 yuan. In some places where there are manufacturers that use wolfberry leaves as raw materials, plus the income from picking leaves, the output value often reaches more than 10,000 yuan.

Moreover, the investment is small, the benefits come early and the benefit period is long. You can get benefits from planting wolfberry in the next year. The high-yield period is 6 to 30 years. As long as scientific management is strengthened, the economic benefits can last for a hundred years. This is difficult to achieve with other medicinal plants and crops.
