How to propagate Monstera

How to propagate Monstera

1. Cutting time

When growing Monstera, the best time for cuttings is in spring and autumn every year. Because if you do cuttings at this time, the temperature is most suitable and the survival rate will be higher. Generally, new leaves will grow after autumn. If maintained normally, they can grow into new plants in the second year.

2. Cutting method

Cut a cutting from Monstera, 10 cm long, and keep 2-3 buds. Keep the aerial roots at the bottom, but don't keep the leaves.

The soil can be vermiculite or fine sand, or a mixture of leaf mold and garden soil.

Insert the cuttings into the soil. If the temperature and humidity are suitable, new roots will grow at the end with aerial roots in about a month. As the roots grow, new buds will slowly grow and develop into leaves. Note that during the rooting process, place it in a hidden place and keep the soil and air moist. Once the Monstera has taken root, it needs to be potted in time.

After the cuttings are potted, they can be maintained normally to make them into healthy plants.

3. Notes

The key to Monstera cuttings is to have aerial roots, which makes it easier to survive. If you are taking cuttings in autumn, be sure to do it indoors and prevent frost damage in winter.
