The difference between verbena and sage

As mentioned earlier, verbena and sage are two plants of the same phylum, class and order, but verbena is a perennial upright herb belonging to the genus Verbena in the Verbenaceae family, while sage is an annual aromatic herb belonging to the genus Salvia in the Lamiaceae family. Therefore, the two are of different families and genera.

The difference between verbena and sage

Verbena is a tall plant that can be twice as tall as sage. Its leaves are simple, opposite, (long) oval, and densely hairy. Its inflorescence is spike-shaped, with blue-purple flowers being the most common. Its corolla is lip-shaped, with short filaments, and its flowering and fruiting period is slightly earlier. Sage has an upright tree shape, with a quadrangular stem with little or no hair. The inflorescence is terminal, umbellate and elongated into a raceme or panicle. The flowers are lighter in color, such as light red, light purple, light blue or white.

According to the growth habits of the two, verbena often grows on sloping hillsides, high-altitude roadsides and forest sides. It is widely distributed and can now be seen in all temperature zones around the world. It is distributed in most provinces in my country. Sage often grows in hidden grass or under the shade of trees. It is mostly distributed in the south of my country and rarely seen in the north.

The difference between the medicinal value of verbena and sage

Verbena has great medicinal effects, mainly including clearing away heat and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. It is mainly used to treat jaundice, dysentery, malaria, gonorrhea, edema, tooth decay, etc., and has extremely high medicinal value. Sage has the effects of calming the nerves, improving eyesight, relieving pain, and is also used as a medicinal herb for hospital disinfection.
