Sage is shrub-like and relatively short, with oval, hairy, gray-green or pale-green leaves, cymes that are purple, pink or white, flowers that have a pungent aroma, and an early flowering period. Rosemary has a taller plant, with dark grey stems and hairy young branches that change from quadrangular to cylindrical in the process of growing into old branches. The leaves are clustered, with short petioles or no petioles, and the flowers are opposite, with a late flowering period.
