The raceme is terminal and densely covered with glandular hairs; the pedicel is 5-7 mm long; the calyx is nearly as long as the pedicel, 5-parted, the lobes are ovate, obtuse or acute; the corolla has a variety of colors, from red, purple to white, 3-5 cm long, the base extends downward in the front into a hood shape, the upper lip is upright, wide, 2-cleft, the lower lip is 3-cleft, and it bulges towards the upper lip in the middle, closing the throat and making the corolla appear mask-like; there are 4 stamens, 2 strong.

Goldfish spider plant, also known as goldfish flower, kangaroo spider plant, kangaroo flower, hanging goldfish, etc. A perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Antirrhinum in the Gesneriaceae family, with a semi-woody base. The stem is obliquely ascending, 20-40 cm long, the young stem is green, and the old stem is reddish brown; the leaves are simple, opposite, ovate, about 3-4 cm long, pointed at the tip, fleshy, dark green on the surface, and red on the back near the main vein.

The flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, about 2-3 cm long, with 5 sepals, lip-shaped corolla, swollen at the bottom, 5 small lobes at the tip, orange-red, yellow lobes, and red between lobes; stamens are attached to the petals, anthers are adhered; there is one pistil. Capsule, similar to that of plants in the Scrophulariaceae family.

The difference between snapdragon and goldfish spider plant

Although there are varieties of snapdragon whose flowers look like goldfish, the snapdragon is the original species of goldfish. So, if you see leaves that are fleshy and emerald green and flowers that look like little goldfish, it’s the goldfish spider plant. The leaves are slender and the flowers are of various shapes. It is snapdragon.
