How to treat digitalis poisoning

How to treat digitalis poisoning

Overdose symptoms

Although it is effective, taking it in excess may result in poisoning. If you accidentally take it in excess, you may experience nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, insomnia, mental confusion, etc. It may also cause changes in vision, with decreased and blurred vision being the most common phenomena. At the same time, if the condition is serious, there will be various problems such as arrhythmia. Therefore, even if it is used as medicine, side effects are inevitable. You should follow the doctor's instructions when taking it and do not take it indiscriminately.

Treatment

If poisoning occurs, you should stop using it immediately, so that some adverse symptoms may disappear on their own after stopping the drug; for those with rapid arrhythmia, if the concentration of K in the blood is very low, you can supplement K appropriately; otherwise, you can use drugs such as lidocaine. In addition, it is necessary to stop taking drugs that promote urination and fully supplement potassium salts to relieve the symptoms of arrhythmia. If there are patients with hypokalemia, those with more severe conditions can receive intravenous potassium supplementation. If the poisoning phenomenon is arrhythmia: perform intravenous or subcutaneous injection. Note that it is generally not necessary to use a "pacemaker" because when the human body is poisoned, the excitability of its myocardial cells will increase accordingly. If used, it will easily aggravate the condition. In addition, "dopamine" is needed to treat heart failure. However, if the dose is too high, adverse reactions may occur. In addition, because the human body reacts to it differently, we have to pay more attention to the dosage to be safe. Studies have shown that it is safer to start with a small dose, and if you feel that the dose may not be enough to relieve your symptoms, you can gradually increase the dose over time.
