The difference between summer pansy and pansy

The difference between summer pansy and pansy

Flower shape

Summer pansies usually grow terminally or axillarily on stems, with 2 to 3 flowers, while pansies mainly grow single axillary flowers.

The flower tube of summer pansy is funnel-shaped, with a lip-shaped corolla, an enlarged calyx, and five ridged wings on the calyx tube. The pansy calyx has five lobes, but the calyx surface is relatively flat and the color is darker.

In general, summer pansies look like colorful pig ears, while pansies look more like dancing butterflies.

Flower Color

The biggest difference between summer pansy and pansy is probably the color. The colors of summer pansies are richer, but as far as a single flower is concerned, the colors of pansies are more colorful.

The colors of summer pansy include purple-blue, peach-pink, pink, dark blue, light blue, deep rose-red, blue-purple, dark peach-pink and purple, but almost every flower has a white base, the petals are other colors, and there is a little yellow at the throat. Pansies are different, each flower usually has three colors: purple, white and yellow. The upper petals are often a single color, while the lower petals are tri-colored and may have colorful stripes.

leaf

The leaves of summer pansy and pansy are actually very similar, opposite, ovate or ovate-lanceolate, with serrated edges. But they can still see subtle differences, such as the leaves of pansies are more rounded, while the leaves of summer pansies are relatively pointed.

Other differences

The growth habits of summer pansies and pansies are different. Summer pansies prefer high temperature environments and are not cold-resistant, while pansies are just the opposite, being more cold-resistant and preferring cool environments. And the flowering periods of the two are also different. Summer pansies bloom in summer and autumn, while pansies bloom from winter to spring. In this respect, the two are easy to distinguish. Summer pansies bloom in summer and autumn, and pansies bloom in winter and spring.
