When does morning glory bloom and what are its characteristics?

1. Flowering time

The flowering time of morning glory is not fixed. It only takes 40 days from sowing to flowering, and since it is mostly sown in spring, it blooms most abundantly in summer. In addition, the flowering period of this plant is very long. If it is properly maintained, it can even bloom continuously for 100 days.

2. Morphological characteristics

1. Leaves: The leaves of morning glory are generally broadly oval, usually with three lobes, some deep and some shallow, and some with five lobes, but they are very rare. The leaves are between 4-15 cm long and 4.5-14 cm wide. Its base is heart-shaped, the middle lobe is oblong with a sharp tip, and the side lobes are mostly triangular. The leaf surface is covered with soft hairs, and the petiole is about 2-15 cm long.

2. Flowers: Morning glory flowers usually grow singly in the leaf axils, but sometimes two grow together. Its peduncle varies in length and generally does not exceed the petiole. The bracts are linear and have stiff hairs on the surface when unfolded. Sepals are equal in length, only about 2 cm. The corolla is trumpet-shaped and blue-purple or purple-red in color. The stamens and styles are hidden in the corolla face and are of varying lengths.

3. Fruit: Morning glory can bear fruit. The fruit is a spherical capsule, not large in size, with a diameter between 0.8-1.3 cm, and has three petals. The capsule contains its seeds, which are triangular in shape, relatively small, only 6 mm long, gray-brown or beige in color, and covered with brown hairs on the surface.

3. Habitual characteristics

Morning glory generally grows at an altitude of 100-200 meters, and is commonly seen in hillside bushes, river valley roadsides, and mountain roadsides. It has strong adaptability and likes light but can also tolerate partial shade. It is more suitable for warm or cool climates. Short-term high temperatures are no problem, but freezing will affect its growth.
