How to grow carambola

How to grow carambola

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Most tropical plants are not cold-resistant, and this plant is no exception. If the temperature drops below 10 degrees, frostbite will occur. If the temperature drops below 12 degrees, the plant will drop flowers and fruits. The most suitable temperature for its development is between 20 and 30 degrees. Especially during the growth period, the temperature must be maintained within this temperature range.

2. Watering: It can bloom and bear fruit many times a year, so its demand for water is particularly large. If the temperature is below 20 degrees, it is generally watered once every two days. If the temperature is above 25 degrees, it needs to be watered every day. For plants grown outdoors, if they encounter drought weather, they need artificial watering, once in the morning and once in the evening.

3. Fertilization: It likes fertilizer. Through observation, the fruits of plants planted in fertile soil will be juicy and refreshing, the plants will be taller and grow faster. The fruits of plants planted in relatively barren soil are drier, so the growth rate of the plants is slower. Therefore, in the process of planting plants, it is necessary to ensure sufficient nutrients. The nutrients in the soil are limited. Generally, it needs to be fertilized once a month. Compound fertilizers can be used.

4. Light: It is a sun-loving plant. If it is grown in the open field, no management is required. Just let it receive light naturally.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Carambola can be propagated by sowing. The sowing time is different in each region. Taking Hainan as an example, the sowing time is generally from February to March. When it is suitable for sowing, sprinkle the seeds into the soil, then cover them with a layer of soil, and use a sunshade to block the sunlight. During this period, the moisture of the cultivation soil must be guaranteed. The standard is that it is completely wet and there should be no accumulation of water.

2. Pruning: There are generally two prunings. The first one is after successful planting, when it needs to be cut off at 60 cm to promote the growth of side branches. The second time is after the fruiting. This time no major pruning is needed, just cut off the dead branches and leaves.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Anthracnose: Anthracnose usually occurs on the carambola. In this case, the infected fruit needs to be destroyed and Bordeaux liquid should be sprayed on the cut pests to increase the plant's disease resistance.

2. Pests: It is easily infected by the bird feather moth. If found, it is necessary to use dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane to spray and eliminate the pests.

IV. Other issues

1. Edibility: It is edible.

2. Toxicity: non-toxic.
