Chemical constituents of Pinellia ternata

The tuber of Pinellia contains volatile oils, fats, starch, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, arginine, etc. It also contains alkaloids similar to nicotine and substances similar to protoanemonin that irritate the skin. The young shoots of Pinellia contain homogentisic acid and its glycosides.

Pharmacological effects of Pinellia ternata

Pinellia has antitussive, antiemetic, anti-cancer and glandular secretion inhibitory effects; it also has blood pressure lowering, blood coagulation and cell division promoting effects; the surface is white or light yellow, and yellow spots are distributed on the uncleaned outer skin.


Morphological characteristics of Pinellia ternata
