The difference between Catharanthus roseus and Kalanchoe

1. Different plant types

Catharanthus roseus is a plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family. It has a relatively tall plant shape. It is a subshrub with a plant height of about 60 cm. The entire plant has no hair, or has a few small hairs, and the stem is square with stripes on it.

The scientific name of Kalanchoe is Kalanchoe calycanthus. Although its name is very similar to the former, they are not the same plant and are quite different. It is a herbaceous succulent plant belonging to the Crassulaceae family. The plant is relatively short and small, with a height of about 10-30 cm.

2. Different leaves

The leaves of Catharanthus roseus are of ordinary feeling, with a relatively thin texture and a membranous surface, about 3-4 cm long and about 1.5-2.5 cm wide. The edges of the leaves are smooth and have no serrations.

The leaves of Kalanchoe are fleshy and relatively thick, about 4-8 cm long and 2-6 cm wide. The upper part of the leaf margin has wavy blunt teeth, the lower part is entire, and the leaf edge is slightly reddish.

3. Different flowers

Catharanthus roseus has five petals, which looks more like a plum blossom, and its colors include red, white, pink, purple, etc.

Kalanchoe has four petals and the flowers are rich in colors, including yellow, orange, crimson, pink, white, etc.
