The legend of Yujiuhua

There is a legend about the Songkran goddess regarding the lily of the valley.

Songkran Festival is a traditional festival in Thailand and Laos. Songkran is when the sun moves to Aries. In ancient times, this was the beginning of the new year. Therefore, Songkran Festival is the Thai New Year. The Songkran Goddesses are goddesses in ancient mythology and legends. There are seven goddesses in total. They are the daughters of the sun god Kapivarahama and the wives and concubines of the god Indra.

It is said that the sun god lost a bet and as a wager he had to chop off his own head. But wherever the head of the sun god falls, there will be riot and disaster in the sky, on the land, and in the water. Therefore, seven goddesses must welcome their father's head on a lotus-shaped high plate and place the head on the top of the cave at Kantachuri on the Ghailasha peak. Therefore, the names of the seven goddesses often appear in the Songkran Festival, and they are also called the Songkran Goddesses.

These seven goddesses are named for each day of the week, Sunday is Goddess Tongsa, Monday is Goddess Kala, Tuesday is Goddess Lakasa, Wednesday is Goddess Manta, Thursday is Goddess Jilini, Friday is Goddess Jimita, and Saturday is Goddess Mahtun. On whichever day it came, a goddess would go and respectfully request the sun god's head to be paraded through the streets for cleaning. Among them, the goddess Mahton is the one wearing the arrow-leaf rain flower on her head. She wears a black skirt, adorns a sapphire, holds a trident in her left hand, holds a Dharma wheel in her right hand, and rides on a peacock, a mythical beast.

The goddess wears a rain flower on her head, while other goddesses wear different flowers, which allows the goddesses to be distinguished from each other. The rain-flower also became something the goddess wore.
