How to care for newly bought Phoenix bamboo

How to care for newly bought Phoenix bamboo

1. Soil

You should carefully check the soil in the pot of the newly purchased bamboo. If the soil is not good, you need to replace it immediately. It is best to use fertile, humus-rich leaf mold, and a layer of coarse sand can be placed at the bottom of the pot to increase permeability. You can add some decomposed cake fertilizer crumbs as base fertilizer, which is beneficial to the development of whip roots and the growth of branches and leaves.

2. Environment

When you first buy it, you need to let it adapt to the new environment at home. It is best to put it in a warmer place. Just keep the temperature at around 20℃, keep the space ventilated and prevent diseases. Once it starts to grow, it means it has adapted to the environment at home.

3. Watering

Don't water it too much when you first buy it, just keep the soil moist. Water it in moderation. Water it when the soil is half dry. Do not water it in large quantities to avoid water accumulation. In addition, in summer, you should often spray water on the branches and leaves to increase the humidity of the leaves and reduce the temperature.

4. Lighting

When you first buy it, try to give it mild sunlight to help it adapt to the new environment. It requires a certain amount of light exposure time. During subsequent maintenance, it can be placed in a place with scattered light, such as the living room. In the summer, if you are exposed to direct strong sunlight, you must provide shade and cool down in time.

5. Fertilization

There is no need to fertilize when you just buy it. After repotting or during the growing season, you can mix it with manure, bone meal, local fertilizer and pond mud. This will not only increase the effective fertility of the soil, but also be of great benefit to the growth of new bamboo shoots. The best results are achieved during the rapid growth season when quick-acting fertilizers such as urea are used in the form of a nutrient solution.
