1. Ornamental value

Among ferns, the maidenhair fern is one of the most widely cultivated species. The stems and leaves are beautiful and varied, the shape is graceful, and the plant is small, making it very suitable for small pot cultivation and embellishment of rock bonsai. Because the black petioles are slender and shiny, resembling human hair, and their texture is very soft, like a girl's soft hair, it is also called "girl's hair"; its light green thin leaves are matched with black and shiny petioles, which looks particularly elegant and beautiful. It likes shade, has strong adaptability, is easy to cultivate, and is more suitable for indoor perennial potted viewing. As a small potted shade-loving foliage plant, it is superior to asparagus fern in many aspects. Small potted plants can be placed on desks or coffee tables; larger potted plants can be used to decorate window sills, corridors or living rooms in shady rooms and can be appreciated for a long time. The leaves of the maidenhair fern are also good cut leaf materials and dried flower materials.

2. Purify the environment

The maidenhair fern can absorb about 20 micrograms of formaldehyde per hour and is therefore considered the most effective biological "purifier". People who deal with paint and coatings all day, or who have people around them who like to smoke, should place at least one fern in their workplace. Additionally, it can inhibit the release of xylene and toluene from computer monitors and printers.

3. Medicinal value

The maidenhair fern can dispel wind, activate blood circulation, relieve fever, stop bleeding, and promote tissue regeneration. It is used to treat rheumatism, pruritus, arthritis, cramps, hemiplegia, vomiting blood due to overwork, bruises, knife wounds, and ecthyma. Clears away heat, promotes diuresis, disperses blood stasis and stops bleeding, relaxes muscles and activates collaterals. Used for upper respiratory tract infection, hepatitis, dysentery, urinary tract infection, epistaxis, hemoptysis, hematemesis, bloody stool, athlete's foot edema, rheumatic bone pain, urticaria, hemiplegia, numbness of hands and feet, and bruises; used externally to treat traumatic bleeding, fractures, sores, and leg ulcers. It has high medicinal value and can be used to treat influenza, colds, coughs, hepatitis, dysentery, low back pain, urethral stones, mastalgia, tuberculosis, bruises, burns, snake bites, and carbuncle.
