Red Calla Lily

Red Calla Lily

Living Environment

Red Calla Lily is not cold-resistant and prefers a warm climate with winter temperatures not lower than 15℃. It should have plenty of sunlight and good light, and it will bloom a lot. It is fertilizer-tolerant, water-loving, and requires moist soil and high air humidity.

The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River experience high temperatures in summer, and plants often go dormant.

Reproduction method

Commonly used propagation methods are division and sowing. After flowering until mid-September, dig up the small tubers around the mother plant and transplant them.

Sowing, sowing in pots indoors, germination 15-20 days after sowing, seedlings need 3-4 years to bloom.

Farming methods

For open-field planting, choose a place with sufficient light, fertile soil and good water retention. It is usually planted in the open field or in pots, and blooms 3 months after planting.

For cut flower cultivation (picked after flowering), flowering occurs 3 months after planting in winter and 60-70 days after planting in summer. During the growing period, keep the soil moist and spray water frequently to maintain a high air humidity, which is conducive to leaf growth. During the high temperature period in summer, the tubers are in a semi-dormant state, so control watering.

Pest control

The tubers of red calla lily are prone to rot during dormancy or storage. You can spray the surface of the tubers with 1000 times diluted antibacterial 401 acetic acid solution, dry them and store them.

For red spider mites, spray 1000 times diluted 50% ethyl cypermethrin, and for thrips, spray 4000 times diluted 2.5% cypermethrin emulsifiable concentrate.
