Hydroponic method of ivy

Hydroponic method of ivy

Can it be hydroponically grown?

Ivy has strong adaptability to the environment and prefers warm, humid and semi-shady environment. It is relatively cold-resistant and most afraid of high temperature and dry environment. It is relatively shade-tolerant and can also grow in sufficient sunlight, but avoids strong sunlight exposure. Based on its growth habits, ivy is very suitable for hydroponics.

It is best to use the branch water insertion rooting method for hydroponically growing ivy. This way the roots grown are not only beautiful, but also will not be damaged by washing the roots. Select young branches of ivy with aerial roots and insert them into a prepared transparent container. Aquatic roots will grow in about 10 days. There should not be too much water in the container, and a certain amount of roots need to be kept in the air.

Hydroponic farming method

In the early stage of hydroponics, you should pay attention to changing the water frequently. It is best to change the water every 1 or 2 days to ensure the water is clean and prevent the lower end of the branches from rotting. In about 10 days, the ivy will grow tender white aerial roots. After new roots grow, the water should also be changed frequently. After about another 2 or 3 weeks, the hydroponic ivy will show lush growth.

During the rooting process of hydroponic ivy, do not expose it to light. The hydroponic ivy needs to be placed in scattered light or shade. The temperature should be appropriate, not too hot or too cold. Wait until the roots grow out before gradually adding light. Ivy is a shade-tolerant plant and avoids direct sunlight. Therefore, when growing ivy in water, just provide scattered light.

In summer, hydroponic ivy should be kept away from direct sunlight and attention should be paid to ventilation and cooling. In the north, the room temperature should be kept above 10℃ in winter. You can spray the branches and leaves with clean water close to room temperature every once in a while to increase the air humidity and keep the leaves clean and green. In midsummer, since ivy is in a dormant period, it should be grown in clean water. It can be safely placed in a sunny place indoors during the winter.

After the hydroponic evergreen is potted, the nutrient solution should be watered thoroughly for the first time, and the solution should be replenished once every 10 days thereafter. Rehydrate on a daily basis to keep the substrate moist. But be careful not to water too much to avoid root rot. During the peak growing season, 0.2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution can be used for foliar fertilizer. After that, the nutrient solution still needs to be replaced every 2 to 3 weeks. In addition, when planting hydroponic ivy, pay attention to protecting the root system and try to straighten it out so that most of the roots can be immersed in water.
