How to make orchid bonsai

Orchid bonsai making: seedling selection

Remove the prepared orchid from the pot and divide it into several small clumps, with 3 to 5 seedlings in each clump. It is best to have both old and new plants in each clump. This will make the bonsai look more layered.

Orchid bonsai making: pot pad

The pot pad is the basis for ensuring the good growth of orchids. Cover the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot with a tile, and then gradually fill it with bricks, tiles or shells. Fill the large gaps with mud or pebbles, generally about 1/2 to 1/3 of the height of the pot, and add culture soil to the rest.

The bedding should not be filled too densely or too solidly, and some gaps should be left. Practice has shown that new roots can grow well in the pores of the bedding layer.

Orchid bonsai making: potting

Place the orchid plant in a pot, allow the roots to stretch naturally, and let the leaves spread out in all directions. Then hold the leaves with one hand and add nutrient soil with the other hand. Hold the base of the orchid and lift it slightly upwards to stretch the roots. Continue to fill the soil and shake the orchid pot to adjust the height of the orchid.

Finally, compact the soil with your hands, but be careful not to press too hard to avoid damaging the roots. Continue adding soil and squeezing it until the soil on the surface of the pot is 2 to 3 centimeters higher than the top of the pot and is slightly bun-shaped.

Orchid bonsai production: paving

After potting, you can add a layer of pebbles or moss on the surface of the soil. It is not only beautiful but also can regulate moisture. It can also ensure that the leaves are not contaminated, the soil is loose, and the new buds grow well. In short, the benefits of paving are great.

Orchid bonsai making: watering

You can water the plant after paving the surface. The first time you water it, make sure the soil is thoroughly wet. The water drops should be small and the force should be great. If you place it in a basin of water, do not soak it for too long. Once the soil in the pot is soaked, move the orchid pot out immediately and place it in a shady place for maintenance.

Orchid Bonsai Making: Modeling

After watering, you can shape it by placing a few simple and natural ornamental stones in appropriate positions. Note that the size of the stones cannot be higher than the orchid. Then add a few small grasses, dwarf ophiopogon and other plants next to it to enrich the connotation of the bonsai.

Such a harmonious and poetic orchid bonsai is completed! Take a look at the results!
