Anthurium is also called Spathiphyllum and Peace Taro. It symbolizes a successful career and smooth sailing , and is a very popular ornamental flower . However, many people often encounter the problem of leaves turning yellow, burnt and dry when growing white calla lilies. So what is going on? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Overwatering Too much water can cause the roots to suffocate and be unable to absorb water and nutrients, causing the leaves to turn yellow, burnt, and dry. Solution: White calla lilies like moisture but don’t overwater to avoid root rot. Between each watering, make sure the soil surface is slightly dry before the next irrigation. 2. Improper lighting The growing environment required by white calla lily is semi-shade or scattered light. If the light is too strong, the leaves will easily burn, wither, become dull and lose their luster. Solution: Anthurium is afraid of strong sunlight and needs 60%-70% shade in summer. The maintenance environment should be in ventilated diffuse light, and appropriate shade is also acceptable. 3. Unsuitable soil Anthurium prefers acidic soil. Long-term use of alkaline water and soil will cause the leaves to gradually fade, turn yellow, and even fall off. Solution: Anthurium grows well in well-drained, loose, breathable, humus-rich and fertile soil, but does not grow well in heavy clay soil. It is generally not recommended to use heavy clay soil. It is recommended to mix peat soil, leaf mold, perlite and a small amount of base fertilizer to make the culture soil for home potted plants , and keep the pH value at around 5.5. 4. Insufficient nutrients When plants lack necessary nutrients, their leaves will turn yellow, burnt, and dry. Solution: Fertilize according to the season. Increase the amount of nitrogen fertilizer during the peak growing season, and increase the amount of phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer in late autumn and early winter to help the plants resist drought. Less fertilizer should be applied in winter. When applying fertilizer, you should apply it thinly and frequently. Generally, use dilute cake fertilizer water instead of clear water for watering. This can not only supplement nutrients but also will not cause fertilizer damage. 5. Impact of pests and diseases The yellowing, burnt edges and drying of white calla lilies leaves may also be caused by infection with pests and diseases, such as brown spot disease and red spider mites. Brown spot disease can generally be controlled with 800 times of mancozeb manganese; aphids can be scraped off with bamboo strips. If the number is relatively large, spray suitable insecticides such as omethoate, aphidicide, and cypermethrin. In general, during the cultivation of white calla lilies, various situations such as yellowing, burnt edges, dry leaves, and rotten leaves are quite common. However, as long as the reasons are found out and then solved accordingly, there will basically be no major problems.
