What to do if strawberries are dormant

Strawberry dormancy

The dormancy phenomenon of strawberry means that in autumn, the growth of strawberry will gradually stagnate, the runners will no longer grow, the newly grown leaves will become short, and the whole plant will become shorter. But in the spring of the second year, it can resume growth.

The dormancy of strawberries is actually similar to that of most plants. It is a measure taken to protect themselves so that they can safely survive the winter.

How to break the dormancy of strawberries

The first thing is to determine the appropriate temperature. The dormancy of strawberries requires a certain temperature accumulation and a longer dormancy period. Generally, varieties with a longer dormancy period require a higher temperature accumulation and their dormancy is released later. Varieties with a shorter dormancy period require a lower temperature accumulation and their dormancy is released earlier. Therefore, we must pay attention to maintaining the temperature and choose the insulation time according to the climatic characteristics of different regions, and keep warm in time to enable it to grow better.

Secondly, you can also use chemicals to stimulate the growth of strawberries. In strawberry production, most people use the method of spraying gibberellins to promote the growth of strawberries. Spray the strawberry with gibberellin and induce the differentiation of flower buds. Then, after the flower buds appear, spray again.

It should be noted that the good growth of strawberries must meet their need for low temperatures, otherwise the pedicels and petioles will grow poorly, which is mostly due to problems in temperature management.
