How long is the growth cycle of ryegrass?

Introduction to Ryegrass Growth

Ryegrass has low soil requirements and can grow on relatively poor slightly acidic soil. It is best grown on fertile loam or clay with good drainage. The higher the organic matter content in the soil, the higher the yield. It is widely distributed in Kashmir, Pakistan, Europe, warm temperate Asia, and northern Africa.

Ryegrass growth cycle

Ryegrass likes to grow in a cool and humid climate, and is suitable for growing in areas with cool summers and not too cold winters. It only takes about 20-25 days from planting its seeds to harvesting in the south, while it takes about four weeks in the north.

Ryegrass growth rate

Ryegrass is a biennial herbaceous forage grass of the Poaceae family. Its general growing period is 1-2 years. It has well-developed fibrous roots, which are clustered at the base. Its leaves are long and wide, dark green and shiny. It has good cold and frost resistance. It grows well in autumn and winter, but grows poorly in the hot summer, or even withers.

Ryegrass growth cycle management

The per-acre yield of ryegrass should be determined according to the planting area and method. The yield varies in different regions. Generally, 8-12 kilograms of seeds can be planted per acre. The yield in the south is 30,000 kilograms, while the yield in the north is only about 25,000-28,000 kilograms.

Temperature management : The optimum growth temperature for ryegrass is between 20-27 degrees. It grows poorly at 35 degrees, and the tillers will wither and even the whole plant will die at 39-41 degrees. It can grow normally at 0-minus 10 degrees.

Fertilization management : During the growth process of ryegrass, the application of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and organic fertilizers with equal nitrogen amounts can significantly promote the growth of ryegrass and increase its fresh grass yield.
