How to prune Begonia and when to prune it

How to prune Begonia and when to prune it

1. How to trim

1. After the Begonia is just planted, you need to leave 3-5 strong branches and remove the weak branches. This will allow the remaining main branches to continue to grow healthily. Removing branches that affect growth will be conducive to vigorous growth in the later stage.

2. During the growth and maintenance process, yellow branches, diseased branches, weak branches, and dry branches must be removed. Keeping them will consume the nutrients of the Begonia and affect its own growth. Branches that are growing in the wrong direction or are unevenly bent should also be pruned off.

3. Do not prune the Begonia when it is in bloom, otherwise it may cause problems such as poor flowering and a large number of flowers falling. After the flowering period, you can remove the remaining flowers, thin out the dense branches on the plant appropriately, and shorten some of the overly long branches. You can leave 3-4 buds at the base of the plant, and the rest of the branches can be cut short. This will also increase the number of short branches that form flower buds and promote flowering next year.

2. When to prune

When pruning Begonia, you must choose the right season, as this pruning will be beneficial to the growth of the plant. The best time for pruning is in spring and autumn. The vigorous growth in spring and autumn accumulates nutrients and will not have a big impact on growth. The climate is also suitable and will not harm the begonia.
