How to grow Dendrobium officinale so that it blooms out of the pot?

Dendrobium candidum , also called butterfly dendrobium, is a member of the orchidaceae family. This variety is famous for its large, colorful flowers and rapid flowering, and is loved by flower lovers. So how can you grow Dendrobium officinale so that it blooms out of the pot? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil selection

Dendrobium officinale prefers well-ventilated and well-drained growing soil. You can use a mixture of peat, perlite and pine bark as the cultivation soil, or choose small stones, expanded clay, charcoal and other materials with good air permeability and mix them in a certain proportion.

2. Light and temperature management

Dendrobium officinale prefers a semi-shaded environment with scattered light. The suitable temperature for its growth is 18℃-28℃, and the wintering temperature cannot be lower than 16℃. In summer, it is necessary to provide shade and sun protection; in winter, it is necessary to keep warm indoors.

3. Watering tips

Dendrobium officinale belongs to the orchid family, and orchids all like water, so we try to keep the planting material moist. But also avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. When watering, you can often lift the weight of the flowerpot, and you can water it when you feel it becomes noticeably lighter. In addition, when caring for Phalaenopsis, sphagnum moss is usually used. We can put our hands in it and water it when it feels dry.

4. Reasonable fertilization

The amount of fertilizer required by Dendrobium officinale is not large because it has many aerial roots that can absorb water and nutrients from the air. But if you want the Dendrobium to grow stronger, you can add a small amount of sheep manure or orchid slow-release fertilizer when mixing the planting material. You can also use Austrian green fertilizer. Before flowering, you can use Huaduoduo No. 2 or potassium dihydrogen phosphate to spray the leaves or irrigate the roots.

5. Reasonable pruning

Autumn Dendrobium is susceptible to diseases and pests, and will be infected if you are not careful, so you must check it in time, prune diseased and old branches in time, and activate new branches, so as to achieve the goal of blooming the pot.

6. Pest and disease control

Common diseases and pests of autumn Dendrobium include leaf spot disease, anthracnose, red spider mites, scale insects, etc. Among them, diseases can be killed by spraying 800-1000 times diluted chlorothalonil, thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim; and insect pests can be prevented and controlled by spraying 800-1000 times diluted omethoate or dicofol once a month.

In general, the autumn dendrobium has a unique flower shape, bright colors, and a long flowering period, and has a high ornamental value. Therefore, if you basically do the above-mentioned detailed maintenance work, it will be easy for the Dendrobium officinale, which is itself a "flowering machine", to bloom profusely.
