Blueberry is a fruit that many people like. The fruit is blue in color, tastes sweet and sour, and has high nutritional value. Since blueberries are expensive on the market, many people grow them themselves. So when is the best month to transplant blueberry seedlings ? Let’s learn more about it below. Which month is best to transplant blueberry seedlings? Blueberry seedlings should be planted in autumn after the leaves fall and before the soil freezes, around October to November. Spring planting can also be carried out after the soil is completely thawed and before the seedlings sprout, which is around February or March each year. How to plant blueberry seedlings? 1. Seedling requirements Choose high-quality seedlings that are 2 to 3 years old, 40 to 60 cm tall, strong, with well-developed root systems, many branches, and no diseases. Either bare-root or nutrient pot seedlings are acceptable, and nutrient pot seedlings are best. 2. Soil improvement Soil testing should be carried out before land preparation. If the soil pH is greater than 5.5 or less than 4.5, the pH value needs to be adjusted. Soil improvement includes soil pH adjustment and increasing organic matter content; it is best to do it 6 months before planting, and no later than 1 month before planting. When soil pH is greater than 5.5, if the entire garden is improved, 20 to 40 kg of sulfur powder should be applied per mu of sandy loam to reduce the pH by 1 unit, and 40 to 80 kg of sulfur powder should be applied per mu of loam to reduce the pH by 1 unit. In addition, 15 to 20 m3 of peat soil and 15 to 20 m3 of sawdust or river sand should be added per mu. 3. Land preparation and ridge making Ridges are made using a ridging machine according to the planting row spacing. The ridge height is 0.3-0.4m, the base width is 1.2-1.5m, and the upper seat width is 0.7-1.0m. Natural furrows are formed between the rows, and all the mixed nutrient soil is backfilled onto the ridge surface. 4. Planting method When planting bare-root seedlings, place the seedlings in the planting hole, cover with a small amount of fine soil first, gently lift the seedlings upward to allow the roots of the seedlings to stretch and be in close contact with the fine soil, then cover the soil to 2/3 of the planting hole, immediately water thoroughly, and cover with crushed soil after the surface moisture has completely penetrated into the soil layer. The root neck of the seedling should be level with the ridge surface. The surface of the planting hole can be covered with organic matter such as straw, leaf mold, bark, wood chips, sawdust, etc. The covering thickness is generally about 10 cm, and it can also be covered with gray ground film. When planting seedlings in nutrient pots, the nutrient pots should be broken and then planted. The planting method is the same as that for bare-root seedlings. That’s it |
